We are apparently experiencing technical difficulty with our cable here at the (brick) ranch. Our internet access has been spotty today, something that seems to occur everytime it rains. Go figure. Plus my dear Husband totally hogged the computer all weekend, so I've been absent from the blogging world and instead feel as if I've been stuck on Planet Biting Baby for the past few days. Or maybe that's just because I saw Zathura with Sister yesterday.
But here I am at last! It's 4:00 p.m. in beautifully soggy North Carolina today and my blogging minutes are limited since Bean will likely wake up from her afternoon nap any second. Up until now I've kept myself busy inside today with various Christmas related activities. We put up our tree yesterday, and somehow managed to cram those 5 boxes stuffed with ornaments onto our tree! Yay for that. But I do have 2 more boxes full of assorted decorations still to decide what to do with. I don't know about the rest of y'all, but I'm getting to where it simply won't do just to put up a Christmas tree in the house. I've got to also put up tinsel star garlands around doorways, strings of lights in any houseplant big enough to hold them, paper garlands on the mantel, bells wound around porch railings, you name it, we're doing it. Sister is ecstatic, of course, and I guess that's why we're going so hog-wild. The days of Christmas done tastefully are numbered in this household. Now, if we could only get Husband to agree to colored lights on the tree instead of white.
Quick, fellow bloggers! Colored lights or white?

with kids in the house? gotta have colored lights! i like white lights, they're "understated" and allow all of my rather bold colored ornaments to stand out. . .BUT as soon as my son gets to the age of true appreciation for the holiday season(he's only 16weeks), i'm sure our tree will be full of colored lights, tinsel garland, and any ornament his heart desires. . . because, as you've heard a thousand times before, christmas really is for kids - which is why it's so great for the rest of us to experience the wonder and joy on their faces. tell hubby to buck up and forget his sense of aesthetics for the moment - let the colored lights shine!! (oh, and get the really big bulbs - they're even more fun!!)
Colored lights. Small children love to look at all the colors or at least my two do.
We have colored lights on our tree too. I think the white lights look very sophisticated on the right type of tree -- but with our tree and the various mishmash of ornaments, colored lights make more sense.
I'm with pie maker -- LOVE the big bulbs. We don't have a strand big enough for our tree, or that's what I would have used. :-)
As many colors as possible, preferably blinking. Possibly at speeds that will cause seizures in lab rats.
We should all be mindful of the rights of the colored lights in this country.
Seriously, I love colored lights for trees. Most all the other lights in our house are white and classy, blah blah. But the tree should look like Christmas Cheer exploded all over it, especially if you have kids. Go colored or go home.
Wow, the hard-hitting questions really bring out the lurkers, huh? It's so funny to me what people will comment on in the blogging world. As for the lights question, in my husband's defense his argument is that white lights look more like the candle flames they take the place of. You know how in old storybook illustrations they have actual lit candles on the tree? Can you imagine doing such a thing now? Screamingly dangerous. But those were the days! Since those days are long over, however, I'm down with the rest of you in shedding "taste" while young children are in the house. Just go with the tinsel, the blinking colors, the Alvin and Chipmunks Christmas carols! The days of tacky child aesthetic are so short...
