Points for mama

Beanbags for the girls, originally uploaded by Secretsugar.

Sometimes it's just so easy to make a kid happy. An example: it's dreadfully cold and rainy outside today and I needed something new to entertain them. It took me about half an hour to make up some bean bags with squares of fabric I had left over from a project, a few bobbins with a bit of odd-colored thread still left on them, and about 4 pounds of dry beans from the pantry that have been sitting in their jars for probably years now. (I used to be a vegetarian and cooked a hell of a lot of dry beans once upon a time...)

The result is pure kid nirvana. Who knew? Sister came home from school and helped me finish stuffing them, was literally jumping up and down while I sat at the sewing machine stitching up their last seam, then spent half an hour arranging them in order from her least to most favorite. I can't wait to see what Bean does with them when she wakes up!

Now THAT is something I am definitely going to have to try with Ariana. She would LOVE to help me do that, and I can let her sit on my lap and help me sew them closed with the sewing machine. She has been asking me for the longest time to let her use it, and this would be a great project!

i love them! i've been telling myself that i was going to make something similar for charlie for some time now and just haven't sat down and done it. thanks for the inspiration - maybe i'll crank some out this weekend!

They're so easy to make, y'all! Especially if you've already got square or squarish scraps. Kids don't care if the bobbin thread and needle thread are different colors, or whether you slipstitch them closed by hand or just topstitch them with your machine (what I did). I suppose I might make them more tidy if I were giving them to someone else as a gift, but they'd still be a cinch.

Cute. It is surprising what will make them happy. On the other hand, I've planned things that flopped.
I listed you as one of flickr contacts.

I didn't get to see the picture on my computer at work, but I LOVE these! I've already told Ariana about them and she is very excited! It's cold and rainy here, so after I clean the house I think I'll drag my stuff out. Talk about a cheap, fun craft! I already have everything I need!

I love this and hate this! Sitting here on a Sunday staring longingly at the piles of craft projects that have I swear multiplied since December....and writing an assignment instead. Must...tear...myself....away! (But thanks for the carrot to get this done so I can go back to my fun!)

I love this picture. There is no mistaking Sister for anyone else, even with only half her face showing.
