Are we really this desperate?

This is the description of a book offered for sale in a Scholastic Books flyer that came home in Sister's backpack yesterday:

"Mustang in the Mist, The mustangs are going to star in a rock video--until the lead horse gets sick! Advanced Chapter Book. Comes with Pearl Pony Bracelet!"

Has children's literature really fallen this low? Please, say it isn't so!

Oh my god. I thought sweet valley high was bad. Oh wait, it is. That is just completely ridiculous.

MOG. There are still a few gems in the Scholastic fliers, but more and more interspersed with crap like that. UGH.

Eek Gad! Then again, I'm not totally surprised after sitting through the movie "Shark Tales."

Don't give in to the rocker ponies!! I refuse to buybooks that come with 'accessories' from the book order. If you haven't you need to get Junie B Jones books though- those are our favorite!

Yes, as a teacher who receives such book orders, I am sometimes amazed at what is offered. At least in the upper levels there are still some good books, but more and more are being replaced with fluff.

Can you imagine how much worse it will be by the time Little A is in school? Yikes!

Oh no...I'm laughing but cringing. It's Jem and the Holograms, but in equine form!

Gahhh...I've never heard of that one.

It's been so long since I ordered anything from scholastic....my sons always tended to want the R.L. Stine type books, which I didn't mind.
