In which once again I am stupid with the hair color

DSC01556, originally uploaded by Secretsugar.

So I dyed my hair the cheap way again, and once again it came out way brighter than I'd intended. I didn't think it was that bad, though, 'til yesterday. I was out gardening in the sun when I heard the door across the street slam. Then the excited voice of our 12-year old, home-schooled neighbor yelling, "Whoa! Mom! You've gotta come see this! Look at her hair!"

Entertaining children was not quite the effect I was going for. Bean asked me the day after the dyeing, "Mom, what happened to your hair? Your normal hair?" So perhaps I should've realized it was worse than I thought.

Oh well! I'm still too cheap to pay someone to fix it and too busy to spend that much time obsessing over it anyway. It'll fade sooner or later.

once again you make me laugh. admittedly, a little bit AT you. but seriously, it ain't that bad! if you do want to tone it down quickly and you have an aveda near you (or beauty supply store) you can grab their color depositing conditioners. one application will last you several months-- like maybe 20 bucks a tube?

i too went the way of home achieved red and was less than thrilled (i believe my very good friend's exact words were "you look like ASS with that hair"), and aveda's brown tube (called madder root or some such) toned it down nicely.

Oh my I so did this. Once, when I was blue I decided to henna my hair. Went to Lush, bought some gorgeous henna (they said), went to town, and popped out with magenta hair. Long magenta hair. Know what? It did cheer me up.(!) I think your hair is great!

Maybe the picture doesn't make it look as bad as you think it does, but I kinda like it.

It's good to have something wild once in a while! Plus, what does Miss Home Schooled Kid know about the world anyhow? She'll commit her own wild hair adventures once she moves out on her own.

I think it's pretty. And I'm a professional. There is a lot of professionally done color that receive the same kind of comments. Some people just don't respond well to adventurous hair color. It's shocking to them if it's not just brown or just blond. Some of us prefer to be more interesting. It would be different if you didn't look good with red hair, if it didn't suit you, but it does. And in my opinion kids can never be trusted with that stuff anyway. I mean, look at the outfits they choose for themselves.
