I've got to post this because the photo--and the event itself!--were too hilarious not to put out there. I was trying to keep loud little Bean out of the house over the weekend while her early-rising Papa caught a quick nap. We went out into the backyard to do a little weeding together, which she enjoys because it invariably means we find some form of interesting life. In the case of the barberry shrubs near the swings, pulling up handfuls of overgrown crabgrass yielded handfuls of overgrown slugs. Yuck!
I'm never bothered by this sort of thing, but even I was grossed out when I saw the slugs wrapping themselves between her fingers, webs of slime draped behind them. After Bean stashed the slugs in a new bowl habitat and came inside, it took me ten minutes and a new green scrubbie to get rid of the horrible goo--and then I had to throw the scrubbie away because it was so filled with nastiness.
Such is life with Bean!

From my brief time I met her, I think this picture captures her well. I hope her love of nature continues throughout her whole life.
I thought it was a snake. Which I found less disgusting. Yet, I love to see girls who are not afraid of those kinds of things. And I am disappointed in myself for the fact that I couldn't stand to hold those things in my hand.
Yay Bean, for not being at all afraid of that slimy oozing. As for me, of course, I just about went into convulsions. Thank goodness there are people made of stronger stuff than me out there!
Those might be the scariest most revolting slugs I have ever seen in my entire life. Those are not slugs. That is a new life form. And I do not blame you at all for throwing out the sponge. I might have had to Lysol my hands.
I am totally grossed out by slugs and that picture....but the look on Bean's face says it all....she LOVES nature!!! I'll never forget her chasing that little frog all over your house!!!
Oh my gosh, my skin is still crawling from the thought... slugs... ack! Lord take me now, I could never... hold one slug... muchless a handful... what a brave little trooper that one is!
She is a brave girl. I could not touch those things.
Hey -- sent a shout-out on the blog this morning to you and the crew!
Oh my Lord! I have NEVER seen them that big! That is amazing, and ya know, it's a wonderful picture, too.
